In plain words

This world is the relation of cause and effect

You see the world. One man sees the world and decides, ‘This is the world.’ And a man given to spiritual contemplation, ‘You fool! What you see is not the world; you are seeing the Lord of the world,’ said he. Viṣṇu is the cause; the world is the effect. This world is the relation of cause and effect. There is no world without God. So all that you see is God alone! That is, it is so according to each one's feelings and each one's faith. In today's system of education this faith is not deep enough, and so the world has fallen prey to much unrest and turmoil, and without security it looks very weak. A gentleman took his son to put him in school. He saw the headmaster. ‘Headmaster, sir! My boy knows everything. He is very intelligent. There is nothing he does not know,’ he said. The headmaster too was an intelligent man! ‘If he knows everything, why have you brought him here? Take him home,’ he said. ‘But there are two things he does not know,’ said the father. What are they? ‘One, when he is told, he does not listen; two, he does not find out for himself’: just these two! Today's educated man swaggers that he knows everything. What does he know? What can a fool who does not know himself say about the world?

Though they pass their M.A.s and B.A.s and come out, though they be elders of great renown, though they have riches and are given to good charity, though they be men of merit famed on earth, though they have long life and health without end, though they be men of full strength, though they ever perform japa and tapas, though they be brahmins who teach the Vedas, they are never the equals of the devotees. Without worshipping God, Bhakti does not come; without being devotees of God, Mukti does not come. What more than this can I make known to you, students counted among the good and the virtuous!
