In plain words
Attachment to the Ātma is itself true Prema. Such Prema is God. Love is GOD, Live in LOVE. When you are in such Prema, purity of citta comes. The principle of Prema turns into purity.
Whatever work we do with purity of citta takes shape as something holy
Though he has learnt the Vedas and Vedāṅgas by rote, though he can compose in prose and verse, if he lacks purity of citta, he is ruined: the path that makes Satya known, Śrī Sai's word.
These Vedas, Vedāṅgas, Śāstras and Purāṇas: these are not what matter most. Whatever you do with purity of citta is good! That is what is holy. That is divinity. That is the Ātmatattva. It is not doing a thing in hope of some fruit. We must love with the feeling of the Ātma, knowing that that is the Ātma and this is the Ātma. This is the true principle of Prema. With such a principle of Prema filling his heart, Śaṅkara went on proclaiming this Advaita doctrine to the whole world. To the young he spoke even more sternly. Merely by speaking of a subject, merely by hearing of it, aversion does not come. I know. A great merchant used to go every day to a gathering on God. A great paṇḍita there went on teaching in a way that was a joy to hear. He said, ‘You must listen until this saptāha is complete; only after you have heard it completely will it be whole.’ It went on for five days. On the sixth day some work came up that meant this merchant had to go somewhere urgently. At once he called his son: ‘Son! That paṇḍita said we must attend the satsaṅg for seven days. He said that only then would we get the fruit of it. So today you go, to the reading. Tomorrow I will come,’ he said, and went back into his room. But meanwhile, again: ‘That paṇḍita is speaking Vedānta, teaching Vairāgya. He speaks of the body as something to be held cheap. One must not sink into family life: things like this he is teaching.
