In plain words
This is not the students' fault. It is the fault of the system of education! The government has gone on setting up many committees to change this system of education. From Morarji Desai's time to this day it still goes on setting up committees. No one knows what decisions these committees have made. What, then, is the use of the committees? come for tea; they set all these up for their own comfort. In no one is there any sign of the intention to shape the students into sacred citizens of Bhārata with their future in view. Students must shine as ideal citizens. Students, who ought to cultivate the highest ideals, are today falling prey to desires. Desires are not primary for us; ideals are primary. Students, who ought to live with the noblest thoughts, are today going about with narrow feelings. What humanness means is going unknown among students. He says of himself, ‘I am a man, a man,’ but he does not learn the meaning of ‘mānava’.
We Must Teach Students the Truth That the Unity of Manas, Speech and Action Is Humanness.
‘The proper study of mankind is man,’ they said. That is, today we must teach the truth that the unity of Manas, speech and action is humanness. Today this sense of unity has taken the form of division. Through this division men are falling prey to sorrows of every different kind. For us study is not what is primary; saṃskāra is very necessary.
Such the sway of Western learning: Sanskrit sank to the bottom and dwindled away; such the sway of Western learning: the Dharma of marriage came to nothing; such the sway of Western learning: all the noble Dharmas were snuffed out; such the sway of Western learning: the craze for dress and speech grew; to speak the mother tongue seemed wrong; fear arose of keeping the decencies of society; the teaching of what is called Dharma was lost; this is what the people of Bhārata have become today.
