In plain words

What Is the Fruit of Studies That Are of No Use in Daily Life?

Like a tree that gives no fruit, like a fruit that has no juice, what fruit is there in being born and dying? You were born not knowing the fruit; if you die not knowing the fruit, not knowing who you are, what then have you come to know, brother?

What, then, is the learning you have acquired? You study for the sake of the fruit. When you do not know what the fruit is, what is the use of studying these subjects? Today's studies:

Today's education increases cleverness alone; it will not increase good qualities even a little. If you have a crore of studies but no good qualities, the dust is worth more than such education.

For what purpose do we need this cleverness? It is put to use for deceiving others, for feeding selfishness, for enjoying one's own gain; but their own education does nothing at all for the country or for society. What studies are they, studies that are of no use in daily life? How does cleverness appear to us in the humanness of today?

Desires Are Not Primary for Us; Ideals Are Primary

Wicked thoughts in the head, ears that listen to slander, eyes that peep from hiding, a mind that listens at doorways, a citta given to deceit, a tongue that deceives: seeing these deformities, justice will live no longer, brother.

All the good in humanness is being rooted out. Students, who ought to help the weak in society, are today causing trouble to society with many problems.
