In plain words
Satya is trikālābādhya. Satya does not change. That Satya alone brings victory in every way. ‘Satyam eva jayate.’ You will have seen it. The Chinese too, though their country and their culture are different, they too have gone on keeping to Satya. All victories choose Satya alone. All riches choose Satya alone. All pleasures and good fortune take refuge in Satya alone. Prahlāda lost his valour. He lost his fame. At the very last, Satya too tried to leave him and go. Then Prahlāda took hold of Satya's feet: ‘It does not matter who goes; I have no sorrow. Only you must not leave me and go,’ he said. The moment Satya stayed with Prahlāda, the fame, the wealth, the kingdom that had gone, all came back.
We Must Keep to Satya and Walk with Dharma
Students! When, for the sake of your office work or your factory work, you have to speak Asatya, you must not flinch in the least but keep to Satya alone. You must walk with Dharma. What is Dharma? The Satya of your conscience is true Dharma. Inquire well. When your conscience says yes, put it into practice. On this very basis all the ancient Vedas taught, ‘Satyaṃ vada, dharmaṃ cara.’ In ancient times, when students had studied with the ṛṣis and were leaving the gurukula, the ṛṣis drew them close and gave them, first of all, these very teachings. This they called the snātakotsava. What they taught first of all was ‘Satyaṃ brūyāt, priyaṃ brūyāt, na brūyāt satyam apriyaṃ’: speak Satya, do not speak Asatya. Only then will your life shine well and blossom. Whatever the circumstances, see that you do not give up humanness! These they held to be the chief teachings. This was the chief boon the guru bestowed! This very thing they have come to regard today as the convocation. From that time until now they have gone on teaching this convocation in many forms.
