Passage 5

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Such a one is no man at all. Our Chief Minister is taking up many works. When we are doing good we need fear no one; we must step forward with courage and daring. But first we must develop goodness in ourselves. Whatever water is in the tank, that same water comes out of the tap. So when the tank called our heart is good, whatever anyone may think, we have no fear.

Not the Anantapur district alone: I hope that in time to come this facility will be provided to other districts as well. You must recognise one thing. Whether in Bhārata or in any other country, if we want to do good work, we lack nothing; there is all that is needed. But that good resolve does not come. If that good resolve comes, there is nothing in the world that men cannot achieve. Instead of going lakhs of miles into space, can we not go half an inch into the depths of the heart? But this is not possible for man. Whatever work we do with a good mind, there is no doubt, we shall surely achieve success. When this water project was taken up, the members of our Trust said, “Swami! This is a huge undertaking, there is nothing in the bank, how will it come about?” “Do not lose heart at all, I will see to it. There is no need to hesitate to do a good work; it will surely come about,” I said. And so it came about. There were no difficulties of any kind. As the Speaker said, from birth until death man has a great deal to do with water. We are born with water, and with water we die. Water itself is life. We must give such water, equal to life itself, to all. That is My resolve. From the very first I decided so. From ancient times in our Bhārata, education has been given free of charge. In those days the villagers themselves made fitting provision for the teacher and studied under him. In our Institute it costs not a single naya paisa. We have asked nothing of anyone. Yet we pay the teachers salaries according to the scale. The government too gives nothing; I am telling you the plain fact. We have not asked. Education concerns the intellect, medicine health, and water the body. If we give these three free of charge, it is as though we had dedicated our very life to society. What greater good fortune can there be than this! So try to give education free of charge. Help the poor with the medicines they need for their health. And in the matter of water too, work as it should be done. Today in some places proper water is not to be had; in Rāyalasīma, wherever you look, there is fluoride. Because of this alone, for generations many people have had their legs and arms twisted and bent, and they live a wretched life. What has happened has happened. Hoping that you will make the right effort so that at least the children to come may be healthy and happy, and blessing you, I bring My long discourse to a close.
