In plain words
Brooding and brooding, he grieves: "This desire was not fulfilled, that desire was not fulfilled." Through the brooding thought "I did not get this pleasure," man falls prey to many diseases. Why should one brood like this? Why should one suffer this worry? What is the shape of worry? It is mentally created fear. Through this alone many diseases come to man. Disease comes to the eyes. Disease comes to the ears. Disease comes to the tongue. Cancer and all comes. Three parts of them are delusions of the mind. This too is a delusion, nothing else. Delusion grows and grows and takes the form of a disease. If any of you want to recognise this truth, try it once. "I have no illness. I am very strong. I am in good health. I have no disease": think this, and live with courage; you will grow in every way. But if one day you suspect, "My pulse is weak, my pulse is not regular," then 3 or 4 beats miss. Is this a disease? It is a disease of the mind. In this way people breed many diseases of the mind. That is why: 'O God! This body alone is the root cause of these diseases of the mind. The body is a shield for the mind. Because this shield lacks the right support, the mind goes astray in delusion. So I do not want the body at all. 'Punarjanma na vidyate.' Punar api jananaṃ, punar api maraṇaṃ: coming and going, is this life? I do not want coming and going. Once I go, I need not come back again.' You must ask, "Give me such peace." How must you ask? When you love Him, He Himself enters into it and brings everything to complete success. God's grace does not come merely by reciting mantras set to their proper tones. You may recite the Vedas, you may read the śāstras, you may sing, you may dance. All these are negative principles. This negative is of no use to us at all. Even one small saṅkalpa joined with Prema for God, that itself becomes positive. What tapas did the Gopīs do? What śāstras did they study? What Veda did they recite? They knew nothing. They offered themselves wholly to God. That is why they went on attaining complete Śānti.
