In plain words
They had no worry of any kind.
Though the mothers-in-law cry out, though the husbands sharpen their knives, the Gopīs do not open their mouths, do not grow angry, go nowhere, are not afraid.
They had no fear of anything at all. Why had they no fear? "When Kṛṣṇa, the very form of fearlessness, is our own, why should we fear?" We must try to attain fearlessness; we must not sink under this fear. We are celebrating the festival of Ugādi. How many Ugādis have come and gone! Do we expect that Ugādi will give happiness? Are we deluded into thinking of what comfort this Ugādi will bring, what joy it will give? The years do not hand us pleasures or wealth and enjoyments. Today will pass just as a day passes. Some people wait to see whether sunrise, sunset, the new year will give some good results. All these are negative feelings. The new year has brought us nothing. We think this is a new year going by the calendar. We must find a new way. We must find a new life. We must experience a new joy. But we do not think about that. We wait to see what the new year will bring. We must bring it to ourselves; the years do not hand it to us. Think for yourself, offer yourself wholly to God, and stay within the thought of God. Only then will everything come to you. The very matter of how to offer oneself to God goes unlearned. "In the world everything is You. What is there that is mine? I am Yours. I have nothing": we must recognise this truth first of all. What does God ask? He said to give up desires. You must give them up at once. He says, "Do not sink in mad illusions." You are sinking. What can He do? Make your Prema grow. Share Prema with others. That itself is your fulfilment. That itself is your sacred path. That itself is the whole of your puruṣārtha. That itself is the four puruṣārthas, called Dharma, Artha, Kāma and Mokṣa. We do not understand at all what the puruṣārthas are.
