Passage 15

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Your heart is contraction love; it is very small. It is delicate. It cannot bear even the slightest blow. What is vast receives no blow at all. It has no fear at all. So develop a vast heart. You can do any number of kinds of tasks. You can move about in the sky like an aeroplane. You can surely do it. But you must make the right effort. You must build up that faith. You must offer yourselves to God. Whatever it is, it will come about. Without offering, if you say, "It must happen, it must happen," how will it happen? Make the right effort on the path of offering yourselves to God, on the path of drawing near to God. When it is Near to God, it becomes dear. Only then will its result surely be gained. The name of the new year today is Bahudhānya. In the world's way, that means grain will be harvested in abundance. It is being harvested in plenty; there is no shortage now. But are we eating well? Are we giving anything to a few hungry people? No. They have gone on giving each year a good name of its own. All these are names of God. Prabhava, Vibhava.... In this way all the names are God's names. What sacred names! Not one of them is bad. Some people: "This year will be bad. Bad results will come," say the astrologers. Why do they speak as if they knew? For a propitiation rite: for money. Do all sins go if you give money? They do not; today people are becoming so foolish. Are troubles ended with money? Troubles are ended with the heart. They are not ended with money. However much wrong you have done, think of God with repentance, in a good way. Do not do that wrong again. Even huge mountains of sin melt in the sunshine and become a lump. If a ray called merit is born among mountains like your sins, everything is destroyed. You must not even think "sin". Words for sin keep coming in the mantras. They say, "Pāpo'haṃ pāpakarmaṇāṃ." I keep saying that it must not be said. Our Padmanābha Śāstri used to say it. Pāpo'haṃ: I am a sinner. I do sinful deeds. I am a sinful soul. All is sin. Why think of sin? Keep this in mind: "Puṇyo'haṃ puṇya karmāṇāṃ puṇyātmā puṇyasambhava."
