In plain words
Earn merit in this way. The word sin must not arise in us. Sin is not something men do. Not one who frightens another. You are not one who is afraid. A wild beast frightens. A tame animal is afraid. You are not a tame animal, not a wild beast. You must not be afraid. Nor must you frighten. You are a man. Since so sacred a human birth has come to us, to make it worthwhile we must go seeking the principle of Prema, the principle of nearness to God. Only the very fortunate win such a blessing. But you are unable to recognise the value of that blessing. Those who do not know the value of a diamond use it like a paper weight. But once they know it has value, they put it in a Godrej cupboard and lock it. Today, because you fail to know this value, you misuse it. You are unable to recognise how great and vast, in truth, God's principle of Prema is. It does not come for the asking. It is not given when you say, "Give." He goes on giving of His own accord. Why should you not win this thing called grace? Why should you not gain it? Why should you not hold on to it? Why should you not make it fruitful? However many new years go by, you yourselves are still in the old way. No sacred feelings, no sacred conduct, no sacred actions, no sacred sacrifice, no sacred words ever arise in you. It is all old songs. Old words. Old games. Where has anything new come? From now on new feelings must arise. Stirring feelings must arise. Eager feelings must arise. Only then will it bring the noblest Buddhi. You must never give sorrow any room at all, weeping all the time, "the old year, the new year". You must be happy. That itself is the true will of God. Happiness is union with God. You must always keep smiling. Only then will your life be a smiling life. No one but God is always smiling. If you keep smiling, you become God. God dances with smiles. God is ever the very form of Ānanda. "Nityānandaṃ paramasukhadaṃ," it has been said.
