Passage 14

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

So, in order to experience divinity, we must first of all protect the body.

All action for the love of God

‘Śarīra mādyaṃ khalu dharma sādhakaṃ’: what is this sādhana? It is nothing but the service done to attain God. That itself is bhajan, dhyāna, yoga, karma, tapas. What does this tapas mean? Doing all actions with Prema, the oneness of the three, thought, word and deed: that itself is tapas. When the mind goes one way, speech another way and action yet another, that becomes tamas. We must first of all recognise the difference between tapas and tamas. Fill your heart with Prema and do any work at all. That alone is sādhana. That is why the Veda said, ‘Sarva karma bhagavat prītyarthaṃ.’ Whatever work you do, think, ‘I am doing it all for the love of God.’ Where is there a greater dhyāna than that? Where is there a greater bhajan than that? Where is there a greater pūjā than that? Nowhere. Merely going to a pūjā room, setting up a picture or an idol and doing pūjā to it does not reach God. God's form is the universe. So what does your pūjā amount to before such a Paramātma, whose form is the universe? Then you become one who has made even God narrow. So to God, whose form is endless, we must give endless Prema itself. Growing endless Prema is very easy. Because as long as there is attachment to the body, there is narrow Prema. All bodies are none other than forms of God. ‘Sahasraśīrṣāpuruṣaḥ sahasrākṣa sahasrapāt.’ Keep adding everyone, plus, plus, plus. If we go on adding in this way, all of us are just one. If you think, ‘I and my family,’ it becomes I plus you=we; we+we, all become one single we. So all of us are one and the same. All are truly children of God. Brotherhood of man and fatherhood of God. All are children of one Father, one and the same part. This is the Bhagavad Gītā’s ‘Mamaivāṃśo jīvaloke jīva bhūta ssanātanaḥ’; all of you are eternal. Not new ones, not ancient ones: eternal ones. You, the eternal ones, are nothing but embodiments of a part of God.
