Passage 5

In plain words

There are all these train travels of a certain kind. All these goods wagons, too, come in great numbers. On every goods wagon, too, they have marked a ‘return on date’ as well. But when that time comes, even when that day has come, when that date arrives, the goods wagons all turn back. Our lives, too, are just like goods wagons. On it they have written what is called ‘return’. But the return date that is written: who knows it? Only the station master knows. That very station master is God. So that return date is known to him alone; no one else knows it. He alone does the returning. But we go questioning it. What for? Out of Ajñāna; from failing to recognise the truth of who this officer is. That is why God alone is greater than all of this. We are unable to recognise the truth that God alone is the head of all of this. For every person, too, it happens only by His command. But man, unable to recognise this truth, man who has body-attachment: “I did it. I saw it. I am enjoying it.” Giving room to such Ahaṅkāra, he falls into plights of many kinds.

So there is one thing we must recognise today. Whatever happens, whatever we see, whatever we experience, we must recognise the truth that all these happenings, every one, are God's decisions. Not a single thing can happen without God's command. But not everyone believes this truth. But the lot of those who do not believe is just that, while the lot of those who believe feels so very easy. In this world not even the smallest matter happens without God's command.

Without Your will not even a blade of grass will stir; why speak of this and that? From the ant to Brahmā, it is You alone. Some on earth do not know this, and are not troubled in mind; they swagger mightily, saying they will act with Viveka, but in the end, however great they are, they cannot know what will happen at what hour.
