Passage 5

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Human life itself is going on as an artificial life. No kind of thought, no kind of feeling, no kind of attachment is with full Prema. Sometimes, when you watch the words mother and child speak to each other, you are amazed: are these really mother and son? It sounds as though they were talking artificially. It does not look as though they were speaking with a true heart. This is how today's students, young men and young women, are spending their lives.

Cultivate Control of the Senses

Not the slightest control of the senses is seen in them. Even animals strive for some kind of sense control, but man makes no effort at all. Even beasts have season, reason. But today's modern students, young men or young women, have no season, no reason. What is the reason? The reason for this is simply that this schooling has grown. I do not wish that education should not grow. I Myself founded a university. But along with that education you must cultivate saṃskāra. Studies, studies, what studies are these! Is mere acquaintance with books alone education?

Are all who have learned to read and write educated? Does one who gains college degrees become educated? Is learning without true Jñāna and good deeds learning at all? If learning were only for making a living, do not beasts and birds live too?

So it is not that we study in order to make a living. We must study in order to know the supreme goal of life. Only when we try to recognise this principle of the supreme goal does this humanness become fulfilled. This is merely bookish knowledge, superficial knowledge. But we must travel in practical knowledge. This alone is our true path. For this, a proper examining of the heart is needed. A small example.
