In plain words
Though He cares for them with so much more Prema than a mother, they are unable to show gratitude. I am not waiting for that gratitude. But when I do My own duty, you must do your own duty. From your level, you must carry out your own duty. So in humanness many such faults show themselves without our knowing it. But without believing these faults to be their own, they argue, ‘These sorrows come to us only through God.’ They think, ‘Even after making so many kinds of promises, why does God go back on them?’ God never changes His promise. He never takes back His word. For all time He keeps protecting, right behind you, right in your home, right at your side. But man is unable to recognise such a truth. Sunk in these physical, worldly, material concerns, he thereby lays all this blame on God. God never brings anyone any hardship or any loss.
The Fruit of Karma Must Be Experienced
The fruit of your karmas alone brings you this sorrow. The result of your actions alone brings this sorrow. The result of your conduct alone brings this sorrow. But you do not know when it will come, what kind it will be, what will come. Every karma has its fruit in return. It may happen at that very moment. It may happen within a few hours. It may happen within a few days. It may happen within a few months. It may happen over a few births. Look at a small example. While you are sharpening a pencil with a blade, your hand gets cut. The moment that karma takes place, blood comes out. Its result is known then and there. You are climbing the stairs; somewhere your foot slips. The moment it slips, the leg breaks. It does not happen that the slip is yesterday and the break today. The leg breaks right when it slips. You have sown a seed. The moment that seed is sown it is not a plant, not a tree. But in three or four days a seedling springs up. In three or four years it grows into a big tree. You have eaten a meal. The meal you ate in the morning is not digested the moment you eat it. It takes two hours' time.
