Passage 8

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Then again, what are certain other karmas like? The moment it becomes a plant, fruit does not come. It takes ten years to become a tree. After ten years have passed, the fruit is to be had. So the result follows you not only in this birth but in another birth too.

Contemplate God

Whether good or bad, the fruit of karma cannot be escaped. Then, since the fruit of karma cannot be escaped, why should we contemplate God? Contemplating God is not for warding off these sufferings. Pray to God for your Śānti of mind. If that Śānti comes to you, these hardships go far away. Even though you have done karmas, they free you from those karmas. A small example. There is a medicine bottle. There are tablets in it. It has expired in the year '97. But suppose that in '98 too there is medicine in that bottle. That medicine has no power of any kind. The medicine is there; the power is not. In the same way, karma is there in you. But by the grace of God it expires. Your prayer is needed precisely so that it expires. This prayer is precisely to keep those hardships from making you suffer them. So, through prayer to God, a great deal of good keeps happening. So you must offer that prayer too with your whole heart.

Your heart is the place of God. So remember the God who is in your heart. If you want to go off somewhere or other and experience Ānanda, it cannot be done. Your Ānanda is not outside, not in things, not in the world, not in deeds, not in objects. This Ānanda is right in you. It is not to be caught outside. It is not something you gain by searching. Where you must search is within. When you search in your heart, you gain Ānanda.
