In plain words
Are we really behaving like human beings? No, we are behaving merely like a leather puppet. We are not leather puppets. We are living embodiments of our own true form. We are beings filled with divinity. Why do you lead this human form, which has such a divine shape, into the wicked path? You lead it into wicked behaviour. You lead it into wicked words. This is not good, this is not good. Today is the sacred Vijayadaśamī. On this day of Vijayadaśamī the seven days' rite has come to its close. In these seven days the seven notes must become sacred. The seven worlds must become sacred. The seven principles must become sacred. It is only to make our life sacred that yajñas of this kind are begun in Bhārata. They are not done for selfishness and self-interest. They are performed for the welfare of the world. All must be safe and well. All must live happily. We must not cause suffering to anyone. Even in those days Vyāsa wrote the 18 Purāṇas and, at the very last, went on teaching in two words.
In the eighteen Purāṇas, Vyāsa's words are two: doing good to others brings merit; harming others brings sin.
Help ever, hurt never: he went on teaching these two. We must not harm anyone. We must not harm even worms and insects. Because God is in everything. With this very thing in view, Tyāgarāja spoke. ‘O Rāma, You who bear the title of dwelling with overflowing Prema in the ant, in Brahmā, in Śiva, Keśava and the rest, protect me!’ he said. But even Tyāgarāja, who taught so much, would forget everything in his hardship. Many hardships came upon him. Tānīṣā put him through great suffering. An old vāsanā. This old vāsanā lies sunk at the bottom. It came out. It came out, and anger came. ‘Rāma! Unceasingly every hair of my body is remembering the Name of Rāma. Moment by moment I am remembering the Name of Rāma.
