In plain words
Such are the studies of today. You must show moral rules in practice. There is no use in merely reading them in books. That is a pustaka, a book. This is a mastaka, the head. What is in the mastaka you must put into practice. Only when you put it into practice does life become an ideal.
Follow Your Own Conscience
Students! I have told you many times that this knowledge is of five kinds. The first is bookish knowledge. That is superficial knowledge. The second is general knowledge. The third is the ideal discrimination knowledge. We must enquire with the power of enquiry and set it on the right path. Even this discrimination knowledge is of no use. General knowledge is needed. Developing this general knowledge, we must enter into practical knowledge. General knowledge is zero. How can you enter into practical knowledge? Common sense and general knowledge are most necessary for a man. So, first of all, you must set your life on the right path. Only then can you become a model for the many. That is why I always speak of the four F's to be followed in life.
The first F: Follow the master. Who is your master? Your conscience is your master. Follow your conscience. Do not follow this one or that one. Follow your own inner Ātma. That is follow the master. The second F: Face the devil; confront your bad qualities. The third F: Fight to the end; fight on to the last. The fourth F: Finish the game; crown the game called life with victory. You must live recognising that you were born for this game. Today's students have no self-confidence at all. When will this self-confidence grow? If true self-confidence is to come, you must develop faith in the country in the right way.
