In plain words
To the last breath our deeds must be dedicated to help. Only then will our life be worthwhile. Every person who is born must set out an ideal and show it. What ideal are you showing? You must show a sacred ideal. You must show an ideal the many will praise. You must show an ideal that gives joy to the many. You must show an ideal by which the many will progress. But such an ideal is not to be seen anywhere today.
You Must Enter into Deeds That Take Morality as the Ideal
Students! Having taken a sacred human birth, what is the use if you do not make that birth worthwhile? How must we make this rare human birth sacred? A life full of good fortune is human life. Human life is one full of fine character. Human life is one full of true wealth. Human life is one full of virtuous conduct. You must dedicate such a human life to helping others. You must not scramble merely for earning money. You think, ‘We are studying for money.’ That is a very big mistake. If we go on putting our study to good use in society, money will come of its own accord. But today, in educational institutions, they go to every kind of trouble for money.
Money has become God, arrogance has become religion, selfishness itself has taken the place of Buddhi, ego has become the fashion, desires have become beauty, Dharma has come to nothing on the earth, kindness has sunk low, good manners have become nothing, deceit itself has become the radiance of living beings, Prema and affection have fallen prey to disease, the learning of Kali has made them blind with lust, living has turned into a burden, minds have strayed from their course. If you delay, what will become of the world? Bringing moral value into learning, will you not win the name, dear ones, ‘We are the children of Bhārata’?
