Passage 7

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Do all your actions through this very Prema. From dawn till night, experience the principle of Prema in all these actions. This is the true message. Great souls who give such a message are very rare in the world. But it is not enough merely to give yourselves the name of messengers. You must proclaim God's message to the world. Whoever it may be, whether they listen or not, you must go on proclaiming your message. One whose good fortune has ripened can hear it. One who is full of misfortune can let it go. So you need not inquire whether he is listening or not. Do your own work. Do your duty. You must feel, 'This is my duty.' But many think they are devotees. What is Bhakti? Merely worshipping, singing bhajans, doing service: these alone do not make Bhakti. All these are only its limbs. They are not Bhakti. In true Bhakti, you must practise God's message without transgressing it in the least. Whatever the circumstance, you must not transgress it. This is the very principle of Satya. Satya Hariścandra, in every circumstance, without the least dejection or fear, went on following Satya. He set his whole life on this very path of Satya. But under the influence of the Kali age, many believe in God and worship Him amid many pleasures. But if hardships, losses and sorrows befall them, they change their minds because of it. All of you know it, from the Bible. They decided to crucify Jesus. At that time they questioned the disciples who were closest to Jesus. They asked who were close to Jesus. Peter, who was so close! Matthew, who was so close! Paul, who was so close! At that time each one of them said, 'We are not His followers.' You see! Are these the followers of God! 'Come what may, we too are ready': that is how one must be. But men are not ready for such a spirit of sacrifice. This sacrifice is man's chief quality. Whatever the circumstance, one must never go beyond God's command. That alone is the true vow. In that very vow sacrifice is born. In sacrifice itself immortality is attained. Not by the petty acts you do.
