In plain words
Rāvaṇa learned the sixty-four arts. The two of them had exactly the same learning. But Rāma put it into practice. Rāvaṇa did not put it into practice; he misused it. So Vālmīki called Rāvaṇa wicked. In the same way, today people study many kinds of learning. That is why the angel told him to digest this book. He agreed to put it fully into practice. From then on he kept putting every small thing into practice. After some time that John took on the whole form of Christ. His whole face took on the form of Christ. All his words came to be Christ's words alone. All his deeds became nothing but Christ's deeds. In everything, in the form of practice, John and Christ, the two, became one. This is what they said in Vedānta: the knower of Brahman becomes Brahman Itself; whatever you dwell on, that form you attain. There was Prahlāda. Prahlāda was a little boy. Though he was a little boy, without transgressing God's command in the least and making nothing of hardships too, he went on thinking, 'All is Nārāyaṇa alone, Nārāyaṇa alone.' Prahlāda had offered himself in that way, and Nārāyaṇa Himself kept on protecting him. His father had him thrown down from the mountains. Prahlāda said, 'Nārāyaṇa, Nārāyaṇa.' Nārāyaṇa Himself came and caught him. They pushed him into the sea. There too he said, 'Nārāyaṇa alone.' Even those waves took on the form of Nārāyaṇa. They had snakes bite him. Even the poison turned into nectar. All the hardships, through his thought of Nārāyaṇa, took on the very form of Nārāyaṇa. Always, at all times, everywhere, the thought of Hari. If you think of God all the time, you will attain the form of God. Never fall into despair, saying, 'Alas, we cannot bear it!' God never, ever gives sorrows you cannot bear. He gives only what you can bear; He does not give what you cannot bear. You may think, 'Hardships I cannot bear have come upon me.' Suppose that when you are asked since when these hardships have come, the answer is, 'For three years.' Is it not just because you could bear them these three years that you were able to get through three years? He is giving you only what you can bear; He is not giving what you cannot bear.
