Passage 2

In plain words

In man today there is one thing inside and another outside. When he feels like crying, he laughs. When he feels like laughing, he cries! His form is a human form, but his turn of mind is a monkey's! God keeps hoping that man will give up such crooked minds and such deceitful play-acting and live as a man. Man must bring out only the sacred feelings that are natural to him, and must not put on qualities that are made up and artificial. But man is sinking morally. Physically, he is falling to ruin. If money is lost, you can earn it again. If your health declines, you can build it up again; but time, once gone, never comes back. So you must put time to good use. Money is spent only when you spend it. But your span of life keeps wearing away, whether you spend it or not. Over man's head Time keeps whirling a cruel sword. He must conduct himself with the greatest care, so as not to fall prey to that sword. To put time to good use, you must do good deeds and develop good feelings.

The Very First Name of Brahman Is ‘I’

God's will alone is the root and foundation of this creation. Man has come forth from God's will itself. So he must hold only godly feelings. Lust, anger, greed, delusion, pride, envy and the other vices arise only from food and ways of living; they are not natural to man. You keep uttering the word ‘I’, don't you! This very ‘I’ is the root mantra. Only after the mantra ‘I’ was born did all the other mantras come forth.

The Veda said, “Ahaṃ brahmāsmi.” That is, ‘I’ itself is Brahman. The very first name of Brahman is ‘I’; but, unable to grasp the true meaning of this word, you utter it with the feeling of the body and misuse it. Embodiments of Prema! In daily life you must follow the path of truth. If you do not, then however many sādhanas you practise, japa, dhyāna and the rest, they are of no use.
