In plain words
Students! Put the learning you have gained to work in service to society, and make it fruitful. You do not learn in order to go abroad and earn money. Today many students, once they pass in engineering or take a doctor's degree, first of all try to go abroad. This is the great weakness in us, the people of Bhārata. First serve the sick in your own country, in your own village. If you cannot look after your own village, what will you achieve by going abroad? Do not toil for money; foster good qualities. Rāma said, “Jananī janmabhūmiśca svargādapi garīyasi.” To keep his father's word, he gave up even the kingdom and lived in the forest for 14 years. You repeat Rāma's Name, but are you following any of Rāma's ideals? Ideals are what matter to us.
Indulgence Brings Disease, Sacrifice Brings Yoga
Students! You are very intelligent; you are highly educated. But because selfishness has entered you, your learning and your intelligence are going to waste. If even an atom of poison mixes into a potful of milk, all that milk turns to poison. In the same way, however highly educated you may be, if you give room to selfishness in you, all your learning comes to nothing. So give no room in you to any vice at all, and take part in service to society with Prema. Whatever small service you do, as far as your strength allows, is enough. Do not fall into despair, thinking, “I could not do any great service!” Go into village after village and find out what the people there need. If you do not have enough money to meet their need, if your strength is not enough to serve them, then all of you work together, side by side; all students, become one. There is nothing in the world that you cannot achieve through unity.
The people of Bhārata won freedom, but they lost their unity. That is why the country is falling into so many troubles. First of all, achieve unity. Only then will the learning you have gained bear fruit. To reject your own mother because she is ugly and call a beautiful stranger your mother: going abroad and forgetting your motherland out of craving for money is just like that.
