Passage 7

In plain words

Today many students think that Bhārata is a poor country. This is the great weakness in our children. Bhārata is not poor. What is not in Bhārata is in no other country. Every power there is abides in Bhārata itself. This is a land of sacrifice, this is a land of yoga, this is a land of karma. Some are trying to turn such a land into a land of indulgence. We want no indulgence at all. Indulgence leads to disease. Sacrifice alone brings yoga. So, in the spirit of sacrifice, offer your all to society. Bend your back and work. Your hands must be full of work; your mind must be full of good feelings. Such a one alone is a true human being. God is searching for just such a human being. Man need not search for God. For wherever you look, God is there. So do not strive to search for God. Strive for a good mind. You must become good; you need not become great. What good is being done to the world by the great? None at all. Instead of good, it is mostly harm that is being done.

Students! I am telling you the truth as it is. You should not take it otherwise. Who is at the root of the hardships and losses the country is suffering today? The educated! For they use their learning not for the good of the country but only for selfish ends. In our Bhārata there are so many educated people; there are so many great intellects. But because they lack the spirit of helping others, the country is falling into misery. If they all joined together and worked for the welfare of the people, how much better the country would be! But they are using their intellectual power in foreign lands. In our country they draw a salary of ten thousand rupees and do not do even ten rupees' worth of work, and so betray the country. But when they go abroad, they work there day and night. The work they do there, why should they not do it in their own country? First of all, you must show love for your own country.
