In plain words
As long as Ahaṅkāra and pomp remain in a man, no one loves him; not even the child he begot, not even the wife he married, loves him. On the day these leave a man, on that day the whole universe loves him. The man who is filled with anger keeps on grieving all the time. Whether it turns inward or outward, the fruit of anger is grief and nothing else. As long as there are desires, man has no happiness. Only when man roots out his desires do all comforts seek him out. In the same way, as long as there is greed, man has no peace.
Embodiments of Prema! When a new year begins, man wonders how the state of the world will turn out in this year. But the good fortune of the country depends on man's actions, not on the new year. Man's actions depend on the mind. The mind depends on intentions. As the intentions are, so are the actions. So the man who wants the good of the world must shape his intentions into true intentions. It is only through the man who has true intentions that the world receives peace and security. You need not wonder what kind of hardships and joys this new year will bring. If your karmas are good, your whole future will surely be good. God does not protect anyone. He does not punish anyone. Each one protects himself; each one punishes himself. God keeps blessing everything, saying ‘Tathāstu! Tathāstu!’ If you speak good, He says ‘Tathāstu!’; if you speak evil, He says ‘Tathāstu!’ So the root cause of your good and evil is you yourselves.
Bow to karma first of all
“Karmānubandīni manuṣya loke”: man is bound by karma. Man's merit and sin, his joys and sorrows, all depend on karmas alone. Unable to recognise this truth, man goes on doing evil deeds as it occurs to him.
