In plain words
But great souls do not care in the least for hardships, for losses, for blame or for reproaches. To bring good to society is their one aim.
Embodiments of Prema! In just the way you welcome happiness, you must welcome sorrow too. You must hold to an even mind towards happiness and sorrow. You think that in the human body the face is sacred and the feet are unholy. But when some guest comes to your house, can you welcome only the face and tell the feet ‘Get out’? When you welcome the face, you must welcome the feet too. In the same way, if you want happiness, you must welcome sorrow too.
If You Have the Wealth of Prema, the World Itself Comes into Your Hands
If you want some article, you must have enough money with you to buy it, must you not! In the same way, if you want the human values called Satya, Dharma, Śānti and Ahiṃsā, you must have the wealth called Prema. There is no wealth greater than Prema. If the wealth of Prema is in your hand, the world itself comes into your hands. With the wealth of Prema you can buy Satya, you can buy Dharma, you can buy Śānti, you can buy Ahiṃsā. It is precisely because Prema has dwindled in the man of today that he cannot nourish the human values in himself. What is a human being? Only one who has human qualities is a human being. A man who does not follow Satya and Dharma can only be called blind. The culture of Bhārata taught, “Satyaṃ vada, dharmaṃ cara.” Hariścandra sacrificed his all for the sake of truth; in the end he sold his wife and child; he sold himself too and worked as the keeper of a cremation ground. However many hardships came upon him, he did not give up his vow of truth.
Listen to the Inner Voice
From the man too poor for a meal to the multimillionaire, Prema alone is the true wealth of every human being. God is the embodiment of Prema, and He abides in all as the embodiment of Prema. The Veda gave the name ‘Ātma’ to the principle of Prema that is in man. Since man is joined with the principle of the Ātma, the Veda gave him the name ‘Ātmavān’.
