In plain words
It was because Kausalyā's womb was the precious pearl-oyster, was it not, that Rāma became God and shone in glory; it was because the great and virtuous Sītā raised them with joy, was it not, that the twins Kuśa and Lava grew great; it was because Jijiyā, jewel among women, raised him with joy, was it not, that heroic Śivājī won his name; it was because Putalībāi raised him with delight, was it not, that Gāndhī became a Mahātmā and won honour; it was because the virtuous Īśvarāmbā lifted Him up and raised Him, was it not, that Satyanārāyaṇa came to fame. In this way the whole world of living beings has blossomed in fragrance. Than the mother who protects us day after day, is there anything on earth more to be cherished? Amma is the very first letter, the letter that comes before all.
Embodiments of Prema! The goal of human life is not happiness, and it is not sorrow. Only when he recognises the place where both of these, happiness and sorrow, arise is man blessed. In sorrow far more than in happiness, man is able to gain wisdom beyond measure. The great sages of old went through many hardships and losses to give ideals to the world. For that very reason their teachings remain for ever in the hearts of the people of Bhārata even to this day. In the same way, if man wants to lead an ideal life in society, he has to undergo many hardships and losses. Not merely hardships and losses alone: he has to face much blame and many reproaches as well.
