In plain words
God Holds the Feeling Dear
Embodiments of Prema! You must regard every single day as a holy day. To think of God you need not wait for festivals like Vināyaka Caviti and Navarātri. Every moment is the very form of God. But you forget this divinity. You imagine that you love a great many people. But this love lasts only a moment. It should not be called Prema at all; it is mere ‘attachment’. To love God purely, steadily and selflessly: that is true Prema. When you think, “I am Swami's devotee,” you must act in keeping with Swami's commands. Do not keep accounts: that you made pulihora from two sacks of rice and shared it out among the poor, that you gave away 500 dhotis and saris. If you like, you may tell these accounts to the income tax officer; they are not to be told before God. God looks only at the feeling with which you do a thing. Whatever little you offer with a pure heart turns into something immense. “A ladleful of the good cow's milk is enough; what good is a potful of donkey's milk?” God looks only at the purity of your mind; He examines only the feeling of your heart. In this examining, there is no one to equal God.
Follow God's Will
Embodiments of Prema! Many students today have done Vināyaka pūjā, hoping to become highly educated and to win a great name. But no one asks for a good Buddhi, for Jñāna, for good conduct. Before beginning even the smallest task, you must enquire, “Will God approve of this or not? Is this work dear to God or not?” Whatever work dear to God he enters on, man will surely achieve success. But man today follows only his own liking and turns selfish. You must put selfish interests aside and follow God's will. You must love God with all your heart, pray to Him, and dedicate all your work to God. Only then does even a small task take shape as something great. To experience divinity, you must have both Buddhi and Siddhi. Gaṇapati is the giver of Buddhi and Siddhi. Only when there is a good Buddhi does Siddhi come.
