Then you will suffer no loss at all; you will never meet defeat. You will surely achieve success.
The Flowers to Offer to God
Many people think worship alone is what matters and give up all their other work. This is a great mistake. Worship does matter. But what is worship? Is it offering flowers brought from the market? No, no; you must offer God the flower of your heart.
Ahiṃsā is the first flower; the flower of mastery of the senses; the flower of compassion for all beings; the flower of forbearance above all; the flower of Śānti, the flower of tapas, and the flower of dhyāna too; and Satya: these eight kinds of flowers are dear to Viṣṇu.
More important than all the rest is the flower of forbearance. It was precisely because he had this forbearance that Dharmaja withstood all hardships and losses and in the end won victory. When Draupadī was being insulted in the full assembly, Bhīma saw Dharmaja close his eyes and meditate on Kṛṣṇa, and he flew into a rage. “Brother! From the very beginning you have brought us into hardship, crying ‘Dharma, Dharma’. The Dharma you followed has become the root cause of our hardships. Now put aside your Dharma and follow mine,” he said. Dharmaja: “My dear! Dharma is only one. There is no such thing, set apart, as your Dharma and my Dharma. The Dharma the heart approves is the true Dharma. What satisfies the Ātma within is the true Dharma,” he said. Then Bhīma: “Brother! While Draupadī is being so dishonoured, how can you sit there with your eyes closed? I cannot bear it. This very moment I will tear this wicked man apart and cut him to pieces,” and with that he rose. But Dharmaja held him back and calmed him. Well then, what happened in the end? Because they walked by Dharmaja's command, victory came to the Pāṇḍavas, and to them alone.
