Passage 1

In plain words

Prema and service are our two wings; as birds fly by the strength of their wings, following this path of the birds, we must reach the goal swiftly.

Embodiments of Prema! You do not understand what service is. Man is born precisely to do selfless service, not to spend his life in selfishness. Selfless service is what proves the oneness of mankind. Only by recognising this oneness does humanness attain divinity. You think that service is just this: helping some people or other who have no one to turn to, those without strength, the weak. But to think that you are doing service to some stranger over there is a big mistake. Whomever you serve, it is as though you were serving yourselves! For what dwells in all is the one Ātma, the one Prema. Differences show only in the feelings; in the persons there is no difference at all. So you must do service recognising the truth that the divinity in all is one and the same.

If you do not serve society, the loss is yours, not society's. If you do not do it, someone else will. Some people swell with Ahaṅkāra, thinking they are doing some great service. What is done with Ahaṅkāra does not earn the name of service. Service, first of all, crushes Ahaṅkāra down. What is the cause of Ahaṅkāra? Only the one bound up with excessive attachment to the body fosters Ahaṅkāra. When you root out attachment to the body, Ahaṅkāra has no chance even to come near. Only when Ahaṅkāra is rooted out does the feeling of the one Ātma sprout.
