Passage 3

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

What comes before Over Mind is Higher Mind. This is a state beyond the five elements. Illumination Mind has to do with the power of Jñāna. The body is gross. The mind, Buddhi, citta and Ahaṅkāra: all these together make up the subtle body. What experiences sorrow and joy is this very subtle body. Illumination Mind is the causal body. In this causal body we know no form, no name, no states of any kind. In it the six inner enemies, lust, anger and the rest, have no place at all. Only when man restrains his worldly thoughts does it become possible for him to enter Illumination Mind. If you want to restrain these thoughts, you must first enter Super Mind. What does Super Mind mean? That is Superior Mind, which means what lies beyond the worldly mind. To enter Super Mind, you must foster Superior Love. That is, you must foster a Prema free of desire. That is why I said, “Love is God Live in love.” Begin your daily round with Prema, fill it with Prema, bring it to a close with Prema. This is the royal road to the presence of God.

The Power of Illumination Mind

The heart of those who have reached the level of Illumination Mind is filled with sacred feelings. Whatever they think, whatever they say, whatever they do, all of it is full of God. It takes shape as a very powerful current. In such people the current flows even through the nails and the hair of the head. Those who spend their life in a worldly feeling feel no pain whatever when they cut their nails, but those who have reached the level of Illumination Mind get a ‘shock’ if they cut their nails. That is why the ancient ṛṣis let their nails grow long. Modern youngsters may put a perverse meaning on this: that the reason was the lack of ‘nail cutters’ in those days. Even without a ‘nail cutter’, you could take one nail off with another, could you not? But those at the level of Illumination Mind get a ‘shock’ if they cut their nails or the hair of their head.
