In plain words
Start Early, drive Slowly, reach Safely. You must enter the spiritual path while still at a tender age.
Vairāgya Means Lessening Attachment to the Body
Students! Girl students! All the powers you see in this world, all the powers you hear of and read of, are all in you yourselves. What is not in you is not in anyone else. What is not in you cannot be seen anywhere outside. All that is outside is only reflection, reaction, resound. Every man is the equal of God! When you recognise this truth, you will never again fall prey to sorrow. As attachment to the body grows, sorrow grows too. So you must lessen attachment to the body. In the language of Vedānta this very thing is called Vairāgya. Vairāgya does not mean giving up everything and going off to the forest. You must see oneness in everything. You yourselves are making up forms and names. What has been made up will one day vanish from sight.
Both Worldly and Spiritual Learning Are Needed
Girl and boy students! All the studies you pursue today are brought in from outside; they were not born with you. Still, they are needed for the physical world. But you must keep them only so far as they are needed.
Are all who have learnt to read and write educated? Does one become educated by getting college degrees? Without good feelings and good sense, does learning become good learning? If learning is only for making a living, do not beasts and birds make a living!
Education is for life itself, not for a living. If education were only for a living, why all these hardships? Beasts, birds and animals that know no learning at all live happily, do they not! Born as human beings, you must recognise the supremely great divine power. You must experience it and rejoice in it. You must share that Ānanda with others. That is the kind of education you must pursue.
