In plain words
Only then does inner vision become his own. Only when there is inner vision is there Balance in life. But instead of making the Knowledge he has into Skill, the man of today makes it into kill. That is exactly why his vision turns outward and he loses Balance in life. Because Balance is lost, he lives in unsteadiness. If man is to sustain Balance in life, he must make right use of the Knowledge he has. Man's many troubles come only from attachment to the body. So you must keep attachment to the body under control, push evil feelings aside, and foster attachment to the Ātma. Many people think, “What is this? Why is Swami teaching spiritual matters even to little children?” Whether young or old or middle-aged, for anyone at all this is most necessary.
In childhood, in the company of many, he is one with them in play and song; when youth blossoms, like the god of the flowery bow, he roams about, lost in women; in middle age, sunk in this world, he clings to the earning of wealth; when old age comes, never thinking of Murahari, he frets that this and that are lacking; unable to give up his many vices, without the zeal to seek the path of Bhakti, fallen in the mire of karma, he crawls along; man mixes his birth with the dust.
What is the use of ruining the power of the senses in youth and then wailing, ‘O God, O God!’, in old age?
