Passage 2

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

He gives no one any hardship of any kind, any suffering of any kind. So it is a great mistake to think, ‘God has given us these troubles!’

The karma each one has done, unless he lives it out, no one at all escapes, brother! On what day, in what way, who can tell! That it must be lived out is certain, brother!

The karma we ourselves have done is what takes shape for us as joy and sorrow. To think that others are doing you some harm is a great mistake. Every single thing is nothing but the reflection, the reaction, the resound of the karma you have done! Man himself is responsible for the joys and sorrows he goes through.

Today, if the world is to be set right, if it is to be saved, the young women and young men alone are capable of the task. Without youth the nation itself will not stand. But ‘What do these youngsters know, compared with all that we know! They are children without experience,’ the elders think. To think this way is a great mistake. If the young set their minds to it, they can achieve anything at all. They can turn even hell into heaven. The power that lies in the young is mighty. If they can understand the power within them, they can uplift the nation by themselves. For this, studies and schooling are not needed. What are these studies?! Knowledge of the Ātma alone is true education. Today people think that education means acquaintance with books.

Are all who have learnt to read and write educated?! Do they become educated by gaining college degrees?! Can learning without true wisdom and good deeds be true learning?! If learning is only for making a living, do the beasts and birds not live?!

Learning without true wisdom is not learning at all. It is merely worldly learning. For the sake of such learning the young people of today are setting out for foreign lands.
