Passage 5

In plain words

Man is not born to enjoy pleasures of the senses that perish in a moment. First of all you must recognise, “I am not a Monkey, I am a man”, and you must cultivate compassion and Prema.

He was born weeping; he must die laughing

When he is born, every man cries out with a wail. Why? “Alas, here I am, born again into this world! I am going far from Ānanda! I am being parted from the Ātma!” he cries. He was born crying, he lives crying, and in the end he dies crying. Then what has he achieved? Man, born crying, must die laughing. This becomes possible only when he sets his senses on the right path. What is death? It is only changing one's ‘dress’! To the jīva the body is like a dress. In this birth you have put on this ‘dress’. After death another ‘dress’ comes.

God is full of compassion, the embodiment of Prema, an ocean of mercy; He gives His infinite Prema to all human beings. But the unfortunate cannot receive it. What is the reason? God's resolve is one thing; the resolve of the one who receives is another. By filling himself with worldly feelings and worldly worries, he loses what God is giving. When you hope to gain what is sacred, you must first give up what is unholy.

Into a head that holds nothing you can put anything; can a head crammed full of this and that become empty? unless the skull is emptied, can good deeds be filled in on this earth?

You have filled your heads with all sorts of things. Then how can you hold the nectar of Prema that God gives? First of all, empty your heads. Only then will there be room in them to fill in God's Prema.
