Passage 6

In plain words

Yoga means …

Sacrifice alone is true yoga. Many people, in the name of yoga, enter on a path that is meaningless and harmful. What, in truth, is yoga? “Yogaḥ cittavṛtti nirodhaḥ”: to restrain the movements of the citta is true yoga. Otherwise it turns into a great disease. You must make the mind pure through Prema. Only then does a man become pure. “Yadbhāvaṃ tadbhavati”: only when your feelings are pure will the result you receive be pure too. What is the sādhana you must do to make the heart pure? Not dhyāna, not japa, not yoga. Does it become yoga merely by sitting with your nose pinched shut? There is no use in it. You must breathe in the oxygen of good feelings and breathe out the carbon dioxide of bad feelings. ‘Oxygen’ comes from the heart; ‘carbon dioxide’ is coming from the head. That is, all that comes from the head is nothing but crazy ideas. They are poisonous airs, like carbon dioxide. You must hold them back and breathe in the nectar-filled airs that come from the heart.

Wherever you look, there is God!

You hope to see God, to touch Him, to talk with Him. But you are seeing God all the while. How? All the people you see are embodiments of God. Make this feeling firm in your heart. Only then will your vision become pure. This whole world is the form of God. You look at this world and still think you have not seen God. God has no special form, no special place. As the Sākṣī of all, He abides in all forms. Only when you hold this feeling can you attain divinity. Do not look at a picture of Viṣṇu, or of Kṛṣṇa, painted by Ravi Varma and think that God looks just like that. All of those are mere imagined pictures. God is every form. “The Lord of all beings”, “All this is to be clothed by the Lord”, “All this is indeed Brahman”: wherever you look, there is God!
