Passage 6

In plain words

With the mouth, we must speak good words. With the ears, we must hear good things. We must fill the mind with good thoughts. This is the royal road to the presence of God. To make your five senses holy, you must take part in work that helps others. “Yad bhāvaṃ tad bhavati.” If the feelings in your mind are bad, the result you receive will be just the same. If you have no strength to help those around you, at least speak good words. If your words torment people and wound hearts, how can you have health and happiness? If you want to have full health, set your senses on the sacred path. Some may have wealth, some may not. But God has given the five senses to all. Put them to good use. Only then will your life be worthwhile.

Half of one’s earnings for charity

In every human being there is a heart. A heart is that which is full of compassion. But instead of filling his heart with kindness, man is filling it with hardness. Man is not wicked by birth, nor given to evil ways by birth. It is one who has good qualities and good conduct who is a human being. That is why it was said, “Of all creatures, birth as a human being is hard to win.” But if one is ever sunk in injustice, wrongdoing and bad ways, what sense is there in saying that human birth is hard to win? You must share your learning and your wealth with others and make them worthwhile. Money one must have. But do not think that it is everything and chase after it. Some spend crores to build a hospital, but from it they expect an income of many crores more. This is a great mistake. Half of what one earns must be used for charity. But doctors are not giving medicine free to even a single patient. The price of medicines too has gone up very much.
