In plain words
If anyone asks you anything, answer with sweet words; greet them with a smiling face. Such sacred qualities are not seen in people today. How can such people be devotees? The body goes to temples, yet the mind enters the path of wickedness. What use is that? First of all, you must set the mind on the good path. Do not take a man to be merely a man. You must believe that the jīva is God Himself. This is the essence of the Vedānta of the people of Bhārata. “Īśvaraḥ sarvabhūtānām.” The divinity that moves in all living beings is one. This is the principle of consciousness. Filling your heart with this sacred feeling, you must make your life worthwhile. You were born as human beings. So live as human beings; give no room to the ways of a monkey's mind. Remind yourselves again and again, “I am a human being, a human being …” What does spirituality mean? Doing some pūjās, doing bhajans … It is not only this. Rooting out the animal nature in you and transforming your humanness into divinity: that is spirituality. Until the animal nature is given up, humanness does not reach divinity. But in man today the animal nature grows day by day. Having been granted sacred humanness, and unable to understand the divinity that is in himself, man wastes his time. One that is afraid is a beast; one that frightens others is a wild animal. Man is neither a beast nor a wild animal. He is a human being. So he must face whatever comes in life with courage and daring.
God looks at quality, not quantity
Embodiments of Prema! Do not brush these words aside, thinking, “These are only what Sai Baba says every day.” The divine power in man cannot be described as this much or that much. God is subtler than the subtlest atom and vaster than the vastest. So to imagine the divine principle as like this or like that is mere naivety. No one can describe the divine principle. All the descriptions man makes are only for his own satisfaction.
