In plain words
This leads to some mistakes. They say that on seeing a giver, even a dying man will get up and come! If anyone is giving anything at all, everyone goes running there. If someone says he has no food to eat, give him food; if he says he has no clothes, give him clothes. But do not give money. Yet foreigners give money and spoil the poor. Man must not sink so low that he holds out his hand for money. He must live with honour.
The other day a devotee brought a car to give to Swami. “The cars Swami has have grown very old. I am giving this car out of Prema. You must surely accept it,” he is pleading. It is three days since he came. But I have not seen him. What is the reason? The cars I have are enough. I do not like going about in big, big cars. But they sent it from abroad. Once it is sent, nothing more can be done. “If you want, My boy, you take My own car!” I told him. I am never one to touch anyone's things like that. Our Srinivas came to Me and pleaded hard. “Swami! He is very distressed. Please accept it,” he begged. “Hold your tongue. Do not meddle in matters like this. Let him take back what he brought. If you want, I will give My own cars. Take one yourself, give one to him. I do not need it,” I told him firmly.
Love man. But do not trust him
A spirit of sacrifice is vital for everyone. If you follow My example, you will become most blessed, you will become full of merit, and you will attain Mokṣa. You want Mokṣa. What is Mokṣa? Mokṣa is nothing but the end of delusion. Love everyone. Love all, Serve all. But do not trust man. The one who trusts man is ruined completely. Love man. But do not trust him. Trust your own inner Ātma. Develop self-confidence. Cut away the feelings that belong to the world.
