In plain words
The young, the old and the middle-aged have gathered and discussed many matters among themselves. But what has come out of these discussions? However many sādhanas a man performs, if there is no feeling of Prema at all in his heart, they all go to waste. What man must nourish above all is the very principle of Prema. That is true Bhakti. But today everyone in the world scrambles after money; no one seeks the steady, pure and selfless divinity, the principle of Prema. Neither by wealth, nor by learning, nor by sādhanas is it possible to win Prema for God. Prema for God is to be had by no other path than the principle of Prema alone. Once God is attained, everything is as good as attained! If God Himself is not attained, everything is in vain. But man, unable to recognise the fundamental divinity, the principle of Prema, falls into many troubles for the sake of worldly things.
Once ‘I’ is known, all is as good as known!
Embodiments of Prema! Strive for Prema. Recognise the truth that Prema alone is your real property. However many other properties you may have, without Prema they are of no use. Only when he recognises the principle of Prema does man become one who knows himself. Vedānta teaches, ‘Know yourself.’ To know yourself means to know who ‘I’ is. The body is not ‘I’, the senses are not ‘I’, Manas is not ‘I’, Buddhi is not ‘I’, citta is not ‘I’, the antaḥkaraṇa is not ‘I’. A small example: curd comes from milk, butter from curd, ghee from butter. Curd, butter, ghee: the source of them all is milk itself, after all! In the same way, the body, the senses, Manas, Buddhi, citta, the antaḥkaraṇa.... Whatever is the source of all these, that is ‘I’. If we obtain milk, all three, curd, butter and ghee, are to be had in it. In the same way, if we come to know who ‘I’ is, everything becomes known to us. Devotees today are doing many kinds of sādhanas.
