Passage 5

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

If you eat until the stomach is completely full, tamoguṇa sets in.

What is dhyāna?

Embodiments of Prema! All of you are doing many sādhanas. But, knowingly or unknowingly, some mistakes too are occurring in these sādhanas. You sit with your eyes closed, meaning to do dhyāna. You think that dhyāna means concentration. This is a great mistake. Concentration is only one part of daily life. Dhyāna does not mean sitting still with your eyes closed. You must make your wavering mind steady and attain divinity. That is true dhyāna. You must merge in the unwavering feeling of the Ātma. To think that God is somewhere outside and try to install Him in your heart is a mistake. First of all you must firmly believe the truth that God is within you. You must see the divinity that is in you; you must show it to others too. All the sādhanas man does today are like the swords used in plays. They serve only for plays; they are no use for cutting. In the same way, the sādhanas man does cannot kill the delusion in him.

Embodiments of Prema! You need not do any sādhanas at all. Conduct yourselves as you have been told; that is enough. Today everyone does sādhanas holding the form to be the main thing. Those are not right sādhanas. You must forget the form and keep divinity in view. “What are you doing?” Ask them that, and they say, “I am doing dhyāna.” How are you aware that you are doing dhyāna? If you know that you are doing dhyāna, it is no dhyāna at all. You must forget yourself. That is dhyāna. You must increase your purity. You must hold fast to your eternal nature. That is dhyāna. You are badly deceived only because, instead of holding fast to your eternal nature, you pin your hopes on what is transient.
