In plain words

Love everyone; everyone will love you

Students! You are pursuing learning. You are passing in the very best class. A joy indeed! But you must enter the best path. “We just studied something or other, took a degree, won a prize”: thinking this is of no use. You must see that your conscience is satisfied. Only then does the study you are doing have great value.

We must respect every person. You all know. About Abraham Lincoln, who served as President of America in the past. Lincoln was born into a very poor family. In that family there was not even enough food to eat. In his school days, when he went to school wearing torn, dirty clothes, the children of the rich used to mock him. One day, unable to bear that humiliation, Lincoln came back from school, sank into his mother's lap and wept. “Why, my son! Crying?” his mother asked. “Mother! They all humiliate me, because I have no good clothes, because I am dirty, because I am very poor,” he said. “Let them think what they like; you respect everyone. Do not hate them. Understand our situation. Every day wash your clothes clean, dry them and wear them. Let them think what they like; we must look to our own state. We must raise our own dignity, my son! From today, strive for self-respect. There is nothing wrong if you wear rather poor clothes. But they must be clean,” his mother went on saying. Lincoln took his mother's words to heart. He worked hard to build up his self-respect. Conducting himself in that way, he began life with a small job. In the end he became President of the country of America. One who could not afford even thin gruel rose to so high a position because he went on respecting others and treating them with courtesy. So we must not go about in grand style for the sake of show, for the sake of wasting money. I tell you truly. It is about Me Myself. Long ago, when I was small, in the days when I was studying in the third and fourth classes, there was just a pair of shorts and a shirt.
