Passage 10

In plain words

You must not speak loudly. Your words must be heard only by those who are meant to hear them. If you talk as you go along the road, your words are heard even by those somewhere off in a kitchen. Because of that your dignity too is lost. “What's this, man, who is this fellow? He is talking like this, like a madman,” they will think. We must keep our dignity in our words too. Our purity must show itself in our very words. We must foster purity in our conduct too. Once dignity is gone, what use is there? I could walk quickly; but I do not like to. If I walk slowly, everyone can have My darśan well and to their heart's content. They are happy too. I am glad too. So I walk slowly, to give joy to others. Because I do so, so many people are happy! If I walk quickly: “Swami came and went away. I could not have darśan properly, alas,” they grieve. In that way I would become one who caused them pain! Help ever, hurt never: you must see to both of these. You must help others. Above all, we must learn this today: do not waste water; do not waste Food. There are so many in the world who die of hunger. So if anything is left over, you can give it to them too. Do not try to throw it away because it is more than you need. What is thrown away like that ends up in the earth. Even crows will not eat such stuff. What use is there in such a thing? Food must be very clean and pure. When it is pure in that way, a pure mind comes too. As the food is, so the mind becomes. As the mind is, so is the purity that comes. As the purity is, so is the divinity we attain. So if we want divinity, we must foster purity. If we want purity, the food must be clean. From cleanness, purity arises. From purity we reach attainment. So we must eat every item of food clean.
