Passage 3

In plain words

Protect Satya and Dharma, and they will protect the country

The people of Bhārata today are making many efforts to protect their country. What we must protect is not the country; we must protect Satya and Dharma. If we safeguard Satya and Dharma, they themselves will safeguard the country. This whole world rests on Satya and Dharma alone. Satya and Dharma are the true eyes of humanness, and its life-breath as well. So in the business or employment you follow, you must keep to Satya and Dharma without fail. Changing your clothes is not enough; you must change your character. There must be a change in your conduct. You must dedicate your life to Satya and Dharma. Only then will humanness blossom in you. What does humanness mean? It is not merely going about in a human shape. You must let Satya and Dharma flow through every limb of yours. You must keep your sight fixed on Satya, which never changes. Such Satya is in humanness itself. Man is no ordinary being. Man himself is God. In every atom of the body, in every particle, God moves about as the very form of rasa. That is why the Veda said, ‘Raso vai saḥ’. Moving in every limb as the very form of rasa, God protects our body. That is why He has the name Aṅgīrasa. If God did not protect the body, who else could protect it? But the body is impermanent. ‘O mind, do not trust that the body is lasting! Take refuge at the feet of Hari!’ The body is fleeting, like a bubble on water. The mind is like a mad monkey, utterly fickle. So trust neither the body nor the mind. You must follow the inner Ātma. The inner Ātma itself is your visible God.

‘When I am here, why do you fear?’

God is eternal, pure, unmoving and selfless. At all times and in all states He is absorbed in protecting His devotees alone. Not a trace of selfishness is to be seen in God. Do not lay your own selfishness on God and fall into delusion. When everything is in His hands, how could He be selfish! Whatever work He does, He does only for the welfare of people.
