Passage 3

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

There is no task man cannot do. He has made great progress in the field of science; he has even reached the moon. He does all this, but he does not journey into the depths of his own heart. If he does not recognise his own true nature, what use is it, however much he may know? Today science has advanced, but the ‘senses’ have sunk low. In man, ‘doubts’ about divinity have gone beyond all bounds. What science says yes to today, it may say no to tomorrow. In this way, the sway of science keeps changing. Science is concerned with the investigation of matter. But along with the investigation of matter, you must also inquire into the self. Only then does the truth come into view. There is no use in merely acquiring ‘bookish knowledge’. You must enter into ‘practical knowledge’. You must search with inner sight. You must give not the slightest room in the heart to impurity or to ‘doubts’. Under the sway of this Kali age, man is filled with ‘doubts’ from toe to crown. Deep faith is not to be seen in anyone. Only when you nourish firm faith can you come to realise divinity. If you say God is, He is; if you say He is not, He is not. As far as you are from yourself, just so far is God from you. As near as you are to yourself, so near is God to you. Everything rests on your own feeling. Only through a change in your vision do you see a change in creation. The Vedas and the Upaniṣads describe man as the one who has faith. So there must be no ‘doubts’ in man. You must stay steady, giving no room whatever to doubts. Not all who have a human shape can be called human beings. Only one who has faith is a human being; only one who has Prema is a human being. Only one who practises Satya is a human being.

Your own delusions deceive you

Embodiments of Prema! Believe deeply in divinity. Call it by any name. Keep any form in mind. One says ‘Jesus’. One says ‘Allah’. One says ‘Rāma’.
