In plain words
Many are suffering for want of water. They are in great distress for want of food. These are things every man needs badly. You need not give a thought at all to these two.
God is not so hard; His is a gentle and sweet heart. However much you are suffering, Swami suffers a hundred times as much for you. So do not grieve in the least. If you hold the good thought, ‘All these troubles have come only for our good,’ even troubles that came like mountains will vanish like mist. These hardships of nature will keep on coming. Not to you alone: even a millionaire cannot escape troubles. Swami blesses you that your troubles may be put right very soon. Talk it over a little with the elders of your villages too, and see. There among those hills, among those boulders, I will see to it that you get as much water as you need. Do not give in at all to these small hardships; do not grieve. All these keep coming to every person who has taken a body.
However many hardships come to the body, you must seek out the way by which Śānti comes to the mind at least. The mind itself is man's support. When there is no peace of mind, however many comforts of the body there may be, all of them are of no use. Peace of mind comes to us by no other way than through the thought of God alone. So, however many hardships come, keep up the remembrance of God's name without ceasing, to hold on to your peace of mind. In all the troubles you have gone through so long, it is the thought of the Name itself that has kept giving you full Śānti.
Thinking of the Lord of all quells all worries
God dwells close beside the lowly; He stays right by those who suffer. God is not far off somewhere. He dwells in your very hearts, right beside you, within you. Do not put away from you the God who is within you. Apart from God, no kinsman and no friend will stay by you.
