Passage 4

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

In any situation whatever, it is God alone who protects you. Those who have never forgotten this divinity are the people of Bhārata. Bhārata is so much more blessed than all other countries only because they never let go of the thought of God, however much they had to toil. People of other countries, however many comforts they enjoy, are unable to attain peace of mind.

Peace of mind is the very fortune of the people of Bhārata! Others are not granted such fortune. From time without beginning the culture of Bhārata has kept protecting its people in many ways. Moral strength comes from peace of mind alone. So keep up nāmasmaraṇa without ceasing. Yesterday, when you went round the village thinking of God and set foot in our Prasanthi Nilayam, your minds felt great Śānti, did they not! So, thinking of God and never forgetting God, make your time worthwhile. Man's chief aim is the thought of God itself! But some who cannot bear it keep asking what gain comes from thinking of God. Do not agree in the least with such envious people; take care never to forget the thought of God.

You may not know it: in every country of this world and in every village, people are going through many hardships; they go on suffering pains of body and mind. Whatever sorrows befall them, the people of Bhārata alone restrain the mind and enjoy Ānanda in the thought of God. Beside happiness and Śānti of the mind, no other happiness is safe at all. All religions teach that the worries of the mind are quelled only by the thought of God, and by nothing else.

Being born is a worry; living on earth is a worry; family life is a worry; death is a worry; all of childhood is a worry; old age is a worry; living is a worry; ruin is a worry; all actions are a worry; hardships are a worry; joy is a worry; a strange worry it is. Devotion to Sai, which takes away all worries, take it up now at least, O people, to your heart's content. What else beyond this shall I make known, O worthy assembly, counted among the good and virtuous!
