Passage 7

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

The sound of the Veda is sacred beyond measure. It is praised as ‘Brahman as sound, all that moves and all that is still, light, speech, eternal Ānanda, the highest beyond the high, Māyā, auspicious splendour’. That itself is the true bond with learning. So every human being must learn the Veda. If that is not possible, he must learn to remember some one name of God every day. Whatever we learn, we must keep reciting it. If we do not recite it, there is no need to learn it. I keep watching a great many students. Those who have learnt the Veda recite it here, and then, when they finally get to Bangalore, they drop it! Study of the Veda does not mean chanting two mantras when someone comes and dropping it afterwards. The chanting of Vedic mantras must go on every day, without a break! That itself gives Ānanda; that itself is full of Ānanda. In this way we must be immersed in Ānanda. But I do not see that Ānanda anywhere. Only when we recite the Vedic mantras without a break does our life become fulfilled. Today they recite because this one and that one are reciting. There is no use in reciting under compulsion like that. We must digest the meaning of the Veda within. What do we eat food for? To put it in the stomach? To digest what goes into the stomach and supply it to all the limbs! In the same way, we must without fail digest the learning we have gained and supply it to all the limbs too. In speech and in action we must joyfully live out the spreading of the Veda and its teachings. People say that God is everywhere. In what way is He present? He is present as the form of the five elements. Each element is itself a form of God!

All knowledge has come forth from the Veda itself!

Embodiments of Prema! Students! You must share the learning you have gained with others, in a fitting way. You too must digest it. At home we cook. We serve the people who come. Afterwards we too must eat, must we not! In the same way, we too must digest the Name we chant.
