In plain words
No one can know the decisions of God
What to give, to whom, at what moment and in what way: God alone knows that. God Himself keeps granting us everything; even if no one makes any effort at all, He showers grace on the devotees of His own accord. To grieve merely because one's wish has failed is not the mark of a devotee. It is most essential that devotees find out the Satya of what in this world is to be taken up and what is to be cast off, and act accordingly. A great devotee, praying to God, said this:
Without Your will it does not stir, not even a blade of grass, O Cause of causes! Why speak of that and this! From the ant up to Brahmā, it is You Yourself. That they do not know; their minds are not troubled; they find no joy, some here on earth; ‘We shall act with Viveka,’ they say, and they strut in great pride; but what will happen at what hour in the end they cannot know, however great they may be!
No one can say when God's decisions will come and in what form. God's plans, God's decisions: God Himself has to tell them. Whom to bless, and when, in which place and in what way: God alone knows. To forget God and think out of Ahaṅkāra, ‘We ourselves are achieving it all by our own effort’, is sheer madness. Everything is fulfilled only through prayer to God. So all must pray. Not for this, not for that; we must pray, “O God! Let Your Prema stream down upon me.” When we become worthy of God's Prema, the world itself comes into our hands. So do not pray for the sake of getting things done. If you offer everything up, saying, “O God! What I need at each moment, You Yourself see to it,” and then make the effort, everything will come about with ease.
