Passage 4

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

How did you choose such a one?” asked Lakṣmī. Then Pārvatī: “Dear Lakṣmī! Your husband is blue, isn't he! Could you not change his colour?” she said. Sarasvatī, stepping in between: “There may be some differences in form, but in my view the two are equal! I see no difference at all between them. If the two of you quarrel like this, feelings of difference of many kinds will rise up in the world. So give up differences completely.” With these words she taught them equality.

God is ever the embodiment of Śānti!

Many Purāṇas have long proclaimed God's nature, which is beyond the guṇas. All the differences seen in God are only the imaginings of devotees! They are all differences in our feeling; in God there are no differences of any kind. As the feeling, so Brahman. We must not change Brahman to suit our delusions. Some describe God as Rudra and as the embodiment of Śānti. But God is always the embodiment of Śānti, not Rudra. Smiles dance ceaselessly on God's face. If you see such a God in different ways... those are all forms of your feeling, not God's true forms. The cause of these differences is your resolves alone, nothing else. So you must push aside the differences that are in you, and see God, who is free of difference. The ‘Divine’ is one, not two. But under the sway of this Kali age, because people drink the ‘deep wine’ of worldly delusions, they cannot rightly understand the ‘Divine’. Forms and names of many kinds spring up only from human delusions.

In the principle of God there is no room for differences

We can attain the principle of God only through Prema.
