Passage 2

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Who are true Bhāratīyas?

Satya and Dharma are like two eyes to man. But, losing them, man is going blind. However much today's students study and however many degrees they earn, they do not understand what Satya and Dharma are. Only because it has followed Satya, Dharma, Śānti and Prema from time without beginning has Bhārat led the whole world in the spiritual field. Only when we nurture Satya, Dharma, Śānti and Prema do we become true Bhāratīyas. If even one of these is missing, we are not Bhāratīyas at all. For Bhāratīyas, sacrifice is foremost. Sacrifice does not mean renouncing all ties and going off to the forests. To live one's life following Satya and Dharma is itself true sacrifice. Following Satya and Dharma, we must journey on to Śānti and Prema. From the moment man is born from the mother's womb, Satya and Dharma alone sustain him. Satya and Dharma themselves have stood as the support of this world. In ancient times, Bhāratīya women bore many hardships and went on protecting Satya and Dharma. On one side they saw to all their housework themselves, and on the other they gave their children good teachings and went on shaping them into exemplary people.

It is enough to recognise the essence of Satya and Dharma!

Above all, what must today's students learn? Not great learning, not great degrees. Satya and Dharma: it is enough to recognise the essence of these two! Man today does not know what Satya is, or what Dharma is. They think Dharma means 'duty'. But the English word 'duty' does not reach the complete form of Dharma. 'Dhārayatīti dharmaḥ,' it has been said. That which upholds is Dharma. It is vital that we protect our Dharma. Those who forget Dharma cannot escape humiliation.
